Tacoma 3.5L EROM V2: features, shift profiles & OTS maps

Explore the shared engine controls, automatic and manual features, and how to choose the correct OTS file.

VF Tuner

Cover of the VF Tuner Tacoma 3.5L EROM Version 2 master engineering release.

EROM V2 gives the 2GR-FKS Tacoma a connected set of controls for fueling, injection split, airflow modeling and octane adaptation. The master engineering release covers both automatic and manual trucks, with a different set of driveline features for each.

One engine-control foundation

  • Direct AFR targets: mixture targets are defined by load and RPM, with the retained feedback and protection paths described in the release.
  • Master PI/DI control: a shared surface defines the port/direct injection blend, with higher-priority starting, cold-operation and fault strategies retained.
  • Measured-flow modeling: MAF-based load and volumetric correction span naturally aspirated and higher-airflow operation.
  • Octane adaptation: a bounded ignition overlay works with knock feedback and the active operating state.

Automatic or manual?

Automatic trucks receive SHIFT3D scheduling and a transmission torque supervisor. Manual trucks have a separate branch covering rev-hang control and low-speed, clutch-in launch control. Use the master release for the exact conditions and calibration requirements.

Choose your automatic shift profile

Super Eco
Developed for smooth, efficient driving in stock trucks.
Super Sport
A more assertive, performance-focused shift schedule.
T-Max
The most aggressive profile, with deeper-load operation in fifth and sixth before downshifting.

The automatic OTS release describes adaptive octane operation from 85 to 95 within one file version. Fuel suitability still depends on the vehicle, hardware and selected calibration.

Get the correct OTS map

  1. Update VF Tuner and open Calibration Downloader Manager.
  2. Select OTS Maps.
  3. Match your exact ECU Calibration ID and choose the preferred shift profile.
  4. Follow the flashing guide for the selected file.

Pro Tuner base files require calibration. EROM V2 Base Bins and the testing-release files are not finished customer OTS maps. Apply and verify vehicle-specific settings before flashing. Modified vehicles require additional datalog review and testing.
